Questionnaires with Councilmember Larry Klein Responses

 

Transparency and Full Disclosure.  It has become traditional during campaigns for special interest groups, including newspapers, to provide questionnaires to candidates and/or to interview them so that candidate responses may help guide the group’s leadership to better judge whether or not to endorse the candidate to its constituency.

 

Palo Alto Council member Larry Klein is a strong believer in government transparency. To underscore his conviction and provide leadership on this issue, the ReElect Larry Klein Website will publish here questionnaires submitted to Larry, together with his responses.

 

High Speed Rail – Palo Alto Innovation Place, July 9 – Larry Klein is open to ANY innovative plan that does NOT require elevated tracks 20 to 40 feet above ground-level which would create an unacceptable barrier the length of our community.

 

The Sierra Club, August 22 - The Sierra Club and the Loma Prieta Chapter care about a range of environmental issues as reflected in this year's questionnaire and Larry's responses on climate change, Green Building, land use and transit oriented development, open space and access to nature, reducing toxins in our environment, and the role transportation plays in green house gas emissions.

Santa Clara County Democratic Party, August 23 – Larry Klein is a life-long registered Democrat. To avoid the appearance of a conflict of interest, Larry declines support or endorsements from unions which provide employees or vendor services to the City of Palo Alto.

 

SEIU, August 24 – The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) represents more than 600 City of Palo Alto employees. To avoid the appearance of a conflict ofinterest, Larry declines support or endorsements from unions which provide employees and/or vendor services to the City.

South Bay Labor Council, August 25 – Three unions which are members of this Council provide labor to the City of Palo Alto; the Palo Alto Peace Officers’ Association (PAPOA), the International Association of Fire Fighters(IAFF), and the Service Employees International Union (SEIU).

·        Larry does not seek this endorsement, and so informed the South Bay Labor Council with his email.

 

Dean Democratic Club of Silicon Valley, August 26 – The Dean Democratic Club of Silicon Valley endorses Democratic candidates who are socially progressive and fiscally responsible, support environmental protections and fair elections, and appeal to the grassroots.

Palo Alto Neighborhoods (PAN), September 14 - This questionnaire is designed to provide meaningful information to neighbors throughout Palo Alto.
